CONCEPTUAL FERRO 13 WINE BOTTLE ‘SHORTENS THE DISTANCE’ IN DIFFICULT TIMES

“Accorciamo le distanze”, which translates to “Shorten the distances,” seeks to bring people together through the gift of wine in a tactile glass bottle created through O-I : EXPRESSIONS RELIEF.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced us all to keep our distance from our friends and family. But the “Accorciamo le distanze” concept, which translates to “Shorten the distances,” seeks to bring people together through the gift of wine in a tactile glass bottle created through O-I : EXPRESSIONS RELIEF.

“Accorciamo le distanze” was born during Brand Revolution Lab 2020, an annual platform that attracts brands, design agencies, suppliers and printers to collaborate on packaging solutions and concepts to connect with consumers. The project with Ferro 13 was the idea of O,Nice Design, an agency in Italy. The concept was to show that there is no distance that cannot be traveled by a personalized gift: a bottle of wine.

“The project mixes different data, such as sender and recipient names, personalized message and distance in meters between sender and recipient with the randomization of colors and patterns. The result is a truly complete personalization of the product,” says Stefano Torregrossa, Art Director of O,Nice Design.

The agency chose O-I standard bottles and, with help of O-I Innoval, created the pattern to be used on the packaging. The designers opted for O-I : EXPRESSIONS RELIEF, O-I’s premium differentiation solution, to create custom 3D printed embossing. This special effect on the glass packaging would allow Ferro 13 to interact with consumers through the tactile sense of touch – one of the magical elements that only glass can provide.

For more than 100 years, O-I Glass has transformed glass packaging for brands and consumers. Glass has a magic element to it – you can turn it into shapes; it ignites the senses. The Ferro 13 “Accorciamo le distanze” wine project highlights how O-I, and its innovative customizations through O-I : EXPRESSIONS, is telling stories through glass packaging.
